The spring/summer 2027 women's shows ended in Paris on Tuesday 6 October with Louis Vuitton. It closed a month of fashion weeks that started in New York and moved through London and Milan before Paris.
Nicolas Ghesquière showed the collection in the Cour Carrée of the Louvre, with models walking between retro-futuristic shuttle shapes placed on the ground. AFP, via FashionUnited, reported that actresses including Zendaya, Emma Stone, Catherine Deneuve and Jennifer Connelly watched from the front row.
The clothes
The collection was called "Ergonomics", and lightness was the key idea. According to the AFP report:
- dresses combined mesh with fabrics described as being as light as cigarette paper;
- the palette was grey, silver and yellow, a nod to airport runways, with monogrammed aviator jackets;
- straight, sixties-style dresses were decorated with reflective paper "diamonds" that moved in the wind;
- loafers, which AFP called the shoe of the season, opened the show;
- bags got smaller.
Ghesquière said afterwards that he had climate change in mind and wanted the fabric to feel like a second skin that is as light as possible.
Why it matters
Chanel and Dior are getting a lot of attention for their relatively new designers, Matthieu Blazy and Jonathan Anderson. Louis Vuitton, by contrast, is staying with Ghesquière, who has led its womenswear for almost 13 years. For trend-watchers, the collection adds weight to two ideas already circulating for next spring: ultra-light fabrics and the loafer as everyday shoe.
